My piece, titled simply “The Barghest”, is inspired by the myth of a large black dog with fiery eyes that walks about with the sound of rattling chains. This is a tale that is known throughout the UK, commonly in the North, where these monstrous ghost hounds are said to be omens of death. I would often wander over the Yorkshire moorland imagining what creatures might roam there. There is mystery in these vast landscapes, but instead of feeling like they are bad omens, I wonder if they’re just trying to live alongside us quietly in the shadows. I think this particular beast, is one that would prefer to avoid people
