The SPirit Mask
An experiment in a new craft
With the intention to capture the magic of my drawn creatures in a life sized creation, I used paper mache to create a sculptural performative piece of work that brings my imagined characters into reality. Building on my skills as an artist and illustrator I am pushing the boundaries of what my work can be, into something that allows me to embody the feeling I am capturing within my hand drawn worlds. Taking inspiration from other mask artists and folk traditions, I have used my dark whimsical style and applied it in a bolder and simpler execution.

Allowing myself to indulge in my curiosity through this project was a great way to take a break from my usual creative routine. It has given me a fresh perspective on my work as an artist, and given me greater understanding of how my style and ideas can adapt and evolve in future projects, allowing me to expand upon my imagined worlds
